It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of James Hiatt on January 16, 2024, at the age of 56.
Born on May 21, 1967, he was the son of Janet (nee Eisert) and John Hiatt. Brother to Jeff and Nell Ann Hiatt. Uncle to Alison and Melissa Hiatt.
James leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and a life well-lived. After a lifetime of accomplishment, his proudest by far was being a husband to Lynne Crucis for 23 years, and a loving and active father to his son James, and his daughter Maddie.
A distinguished alumnus of Indiana University, James took great pride in his academic achievements, graduating with honors from the renowned Kelley School at Indiana University. His time at the university shaped his professional journey and fostered lifelong friendships with a commitment to excellence.
James was not only a proud Hoosier but also a successful bond trader, demonstrating his exceptional skill and acumen in the financial world. His achievements in the field were a testament to his dedication and hard work.
It was 2001 when James married his beach house roommate and friend turned girlfriend Lynne. Together, their family grew to welcome their two children whom they loved unconditionally. The four of them loved traveling, playing games, and laughing together.
Following in his footsteps at IU is his son, James. He and his son shared a passion for the world of finance as well as a love for being members of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at IU.
James and his daughter Maddie spent many hours competing in mini golf, fishing, solving escape rooms, and playing cards.
His dedication to community service was unwavering. He served on the board for the Coastal Authority Care Foundation, contributing his time and financial expertise to support and uplift those in need. His passion for community involvement extended to volunteering with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of young individuals.
James devoted his time to the Great Neck Baseball Leagues, leaving an indelible mark on the local sports community. Beyond the fields,playing poker with his friends was a favorite way to spend his time. Jim showcased his skills as an avid golfer, navigating the greens with finesse, and found solace in both salt and freshwater fishing.
Jim had a love for foods and the outdoors. This was especially evident when he’d be eating his way through Hoboken or creating beautiful memories at the beach with his friends and family. Jim’s favorite time was listening to tunes watching the sun go down.

Services to celebrate James’s life will begin with the family receiving friends on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 1801 Baltic Ave at the Oceanfront. A funeral service will take place the following morning at 9:30 a.m., followed by burial at Forest Lawn at 11 a.m.. A brunch reception will follow at Watermen’s.
