Gabriel Mateo Domenech, son of Ivan Javier Domenech and Alexandra (Alex) Lambert Domenech, lived a short, happy life, constantly surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Monday, October 16, 2023 and left us for Heaven on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
Gabriel was a beautiful baby with a sweet disposition. He had a rare condition, called Thanatophoric Dysplasia, which is a form of Skeletal Dysplasia that meant his lungs were growing faster than his narrow chest cavity could support. Gabriel was not expected to survive birth, so all were very grateful for the precious gift of having three weeks to love on him, admire his sweet face and watch his siblings bond with him. He loved to listen to his brother, Zavier, sing and read books to him. Friends and family from near and far visited daily to meet Gabriel and spread their love.
Gabriel is survived by his parents, Ivan and Alex, sister, Jayda and brother, Zavier, along with a large family that includes his maternal grandmother, Tana Bartlett Campos and her husband, Aurelio Campos; his paternal grandmother, Diana Ruiz; his maternal grandfather, Gregory Lambert and his wife, Patricia Branagan Lambert; his uncles, Nicholas Lambert, Luis Domenech, his aunt Elizabeth Domenech; and great-grandparents Judith and Paul Garland, Harold and Pamela Lambert.
The entire family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, especially Dr. Medha, Shannon and the team of nurses who took care of Gabriel, as well as the Edmarc staff, who were available 24/7 with caring assistance. Special thanks to Brittney, Teresa and Amanda, who guided us through his three weeks of life and into the final breaths of little Gabriel.
