“My Doll Baby”, Bessie D. Guthrie, 74, of Shacklefords, VA passed away November 8, 2023.
Bessie was a woman with a million-dollar smile and many talents. She loved woodworking, knitting, crocheting, needle point, and gardening both vegetables and flowers. Bessie also enjoyed hunting, bluegrass music, playing the bass, and most especially outshooting her husband, Paul, at the sporting clay range.
Bessie was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Euline Guthrie; her parents, Louis S. Daniel Sr. and Olivia Daniel; and a brother, George Daniel. She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Guthrie, Sr.; daughter, Faith Silva; son, Paul A. Guthrie, Jr. (Anna); four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Louis Daniel Jr., Gene Daniel and Ron Tappen.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Bessie’s “best friend ever”, Janie, for her constant friendship, but especially her nearness over the past few difficult months. Appreciation is also shared with Ruth West, for the love and professional care she provided to Bessie. Finally, gratitude is shared with Riverside Lifelong Health & Rehabilitation in Saluda as well as Riverside Hospice for the tender care they provided to both Bessie and her family.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, November 13 at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, with a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in New Hope Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
