Herbert Thomas “Buddy” Gordon, age 82, was born in Richmond, Virginia on June 28, 1941, to Mildred Wallace Denton and James Garland Denton. Mildred remarried James Marion Gordon and Buddy became H.T. Gordon.
Buddy studied at Nyack College in Nyack, New York, and RPI in Richmond, Virginia. He was a 42 year veteran of the Virginia State Police. He served on the Board of the Virginia State Police Association. He was a graduate of the Virginia Forensic Academy and served as Alumni President. He was a member of the Virginia State Police Alumni and served on the Board.
He served his Lord and Savior at First Norfolk Baptist Church and was an active member of the Shepherd’s Life Group. He was also a member of Young at Heart.
He was a member of the Kempsville Masonic Lodge #196.
Buddy was an avid baseball fam and supported the Washington Nationals. He played baseball at Hermitage High School as a left handed pitcher. He was offered a contract to play for the Pittsburgh Pirate when he graduated. He chose college instead of baseball.
He enjoyed salt water fishing, especially surf fishing on Hatteras Island, where he spent 25 years visiting his cottage in Salvo, NC, with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pamela Birdsong Gordon; two daughters, Lisa Gurganus (Charles) and Andrea Fischer; two step children; Helen Bricka and J. Douglas Barker, II (Ashley) and four grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Whitecotton (George) and Carole Logston; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service to begin at 11:30 a.m. with a reception to follow. The graveside will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Virginia State Police Association, Emergency Relief Fund, 6942 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, VA 23225.
