Tammy Lynn Spitzer, age 40, of Virginia Beach, VA, peacefully passed away at home on August 30, 2023. She was born on 4th of July, 1983, in Fairview, Ohio. Tammy, a highly accomplished individual, dedicated 21 years of her life to the United States Navy, rising through the ranks to become a Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) and a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer.
Growing up in North Olmsted, Ohio, Tammy demonstrated exceptional intelligence from an early age. An honor student, she always stood out as a bright and conscientious scholar. Her interests were diverse, including a passion for animals that led her to actively participate in a veterinary program. Additionally, she found joy in diving.
In 2002, after being convinced by her cousin Matt, Tammy made the decision to join the Navy. In 2003, she successfully completed boot camp, embarking on a career dedicated to serving her country. It was the beginning of her time in the Navy that she crossed paths with Richard L. Spitzer, whom she eventually married. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and happiness.
Tammy will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Richard, their cherished daughter, Paige, as well as her parents and countless loving family members and friends. Her memory will be forever etched in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Services in honor of Tammy’s life will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Norfolk Base Chapel, located at 1630 Morris St., Bldg C-7, Norfolk, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Navy Marine Corp Relief and to the Sarcoma Cancer Society.
Tammy Lynn Spitzer touched the lives of many with her intelligence, passion, and unwavering dedication. Her contributions to both the Navy and her community will never be forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
