John Charles Prine (Preine), 73, of Richmond, VA, passed away on September 3, 2023. He was the son of Harry Charles Preine, Jr. (Prime) and Mary Lee Garthright.
Johnny was bork in New York, NY. His family returned to Virginia, and he grew up in Charles City where he spent a lot of his childhood at the Chickahominy River. He developed a deep love of rock and roll, and he always bought new albums just as they were released. He enjoyed sports and was a loyal fan of Richard Petty, the Washington Redskins, and the New York Yankees.
He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He went on to work in car and timeshare sales. In his free time, he was an avid hunter, fisher, and outdoorsman. True to his work, he was also a big car enthusiast. His adventurous spirit and smooth talking earned him the nickname “gangster” among his close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, including stepfather James G. Kitchens, his son James Alexander Prine, and his sister Bethenia M. Abrams.
He is survived by his daughter Tanya M. Viola (Pat); six grandchildren William (Andi), Michael, Martina, Mason, Macaela, and Mileena; his brother Harry B. Preine, his brother-in-law and hero Kenneth W. Abrams, several nieces, his dear friend Ariana Bracalente, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge Chapel, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
