Dewayne Demont Palmer answered the Master’s call at 7:42, March 21, 2023, at home in Newport News, Virginia.
“Pooh Bear,” as he was affectionately known, was a graduate of Surry County School class of 2005. He was known as one of Coach Ellis’s 13 pills that went on to win the 2005 boys’ basketball championship. Pooh was an employee at Spinnaker Resorts in the grounds maintenance department.
He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized in 2022, and became a member of Poplar Lawn Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Bruce E. Childs.
He encouraged everyone he encountered with laughter and showed them love. He knew no stranger. He will truly be missed by all.
Pooh leaves to cherish fond memories his daughter, Kyazhia Palmer, who is his pride and joy; girlfriend, Laquisha Faltz (Malayah, Ja’Quan, and Miyah), who faithfully stuck by his side; dog, Skye; mother, Linda Palmer; father, Michael Rawlings; sister, Shavonne Wright (Matthew); brothers, Daniel Palmer (Emily), Michael Palmer, and Rayshaun Palmer; and a host of family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in Poplar Lawn Baptist Church. Live stream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Davis Cemetery. Mr. Palmer may be viewed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Facial coverings are required for all services.
