Federico Quito Quillopo, 95 years of age, departed his life peacefully at home in Newport News, Virginia, surrounded by his wife and family on Wednesday, February 11, 2023.
Federico was born on November 5, 1927, in Puro, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to the late Simplicio and Rosa (Quito) Quillopo. He is preceded in death by his children, JoAnn Dunsmore, Marie, and Antonio, grandson, Tommy Cartwright, Jr; great-granddaughter, Amya Smith and his siblings, Marino, Erminio, Virgilio, Frances Abendanio, Veronica, and Salvador.
In 1952, while residing in Honolulu, he was drafted into the United States Army. He was promoted to Corporal as part of Company K, 65 th Infantry Regiment, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal for service in the Korean War. He retired in 1989 with 38 years of Department of Defense Civil service and was a State of Hawaii government employee for 16 years. After retirement, he moved his family from Hawaii to Newport News, Virginia, where years later, he worked part-time at Fort Eustis Bowling Center to stay active. He was a man of faith, country, and character who was hard-working and enjoyed family gatherings, swimming
at the beach with his family, and fishing/crabbing during his free time.
Federico is survived by his spouse Maximina of 59 years; his children, Jerome (Cora) Adarna, Arlene (Craig) Gallafent, Federico, JR (Patricia), Jerry (Cassie), Michael (Leah), Eddie (Freda), Dorothy (Shane) Aquino, Rosemarie Cartwright, Rowena (Anthony) Bowser, Jeanie (Sunday) Taylor, Sharon, his brother, Amado, sister Susana, and many, many, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great, Great Grandchildren.
There will be a visitation Friday, March 3, 2023 from 10-11am at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave. Newport News, VA 23608, followed by a service at 11am. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Jr Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd. Suffolk, VA 23434 at 3pm.
