
Nettie Guess Longest Hall, age 92, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 14, 2023. Born on July 10, 1930, she was the daughter of Robert Luther Guess and Ella Taylor Guess. She attended Pleasant Hill School and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hall was a life-long member of Lower King and Queen Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Mrs. Hall was known for her friendly, outgoing manner (some say she never met a stranger), her delicious home-cooked meals and her beautiful handwork. Known as ”Mema” to so many people, Mrs. Hall loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her church family (Lower King and Queen Baptist Church). She also loved growing her vegetable garden, canning her vegetables and growing her flowers.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas O’Niel Longest and Albert Leroy Hall, and her siblings, Margaret Delaney, Clyde Guess and Robert Guess
She is survived by one daughter, Irene B. Longest; two sons, Thomas 0. Longest, Jr., (Debbie) and Richard B. Longest (LaVerne); four granddaughters, Resa Hoye (Scott), Janet Norman (Kevin), Lesley Fry (David) and Stacy Mitchell (Eric); seven great-grandchildren, Anna and Margaret Hoye, Sara and Lindsey Norman, Leilani Fry and Landon and Connor Mitchell; and her beloved 16-year-old Pomeranian, Ginger.
The family would like to extend special thanks to her devoted and loving caregivers, Bonnie Hornsby, Sarah Jones and Doris Morris, and to the wonderful nurses from Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, Taylor Miller and Tanya Hampton.
A funeral service will be held 2PM Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, VA. A visitation will be held 12:30-2:00p.m. on Wednesday, just prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower King and Queen Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o T. 0. Longest, Jr., Treasurer, P. 0. Box 126, King and Queen C.H., VA 23085.
