James “Bubba” Berkley, 70, of Barhamsville

James “Bubba” Berkley (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

“A precious one from us has gone. The voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our hearts, which never can be filled.
We did not hear your last farewell nor your final sigh;
We only know you slipped away without our last goodbye.”

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the Lord saw fit to add another plant to His beautiful garden, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and nephew, James Stanley Berkley. On July 25, 1952, he was born the firstborn child of the late James and Louise Berkley.

He was educated in Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools.  He later enlisted in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army Reserves.  He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after seventeen years of service and Advance Auto Parts after twenty years.  “Bubba,” as he was called by all who knew him and loved him, had a love for cars and had worked on many. He was a member of a local Car Club.

On July 26, 1975, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Jerry Gay.  This union was blessed with three sons.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Berkley.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted, loving, and caring wife,  Jerry Gay-Berkley; three sons, William Gay (Stephanie) of Barhamsville, Virginia, Dion Berkley of West Point, Virginia, and Carlos Berkley of Barhamsville, Virginia; daughter, Kenya Jones of Charles City, Virginia; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; aunt, Ruby Jones; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
