Vernell Broaddus Chapman, 87, of King William, VA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 3, 2022. She was born on June 6, 1935 to the late George and Bertie Broaddus.
Vernell was a God-fearing woman who raised a large family and did so with grace. She was the epitome of a hard-working mother. Nothing brought her more joy than to have the family together so she could cook. Vernell loved to cook and have big dinners on Sundays. If you ever left her house hungry, it was your own fault!
Dirt never bother Vernell one bit. She loved being outdoors and becoming one with nature. Flowers were always welcomed in her yard, but a weed didn’t stand a chance against her efforts to keep them away. Vernell would never shy away from doing anything, including manual labor. Her kind spirit and beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Albert Chapman.
Vernell is survived by her daughters, Dorine Chamberlain (MacArthur, Sr.), Linda Jones (Robert, Sr.), Queen Chapman, Rev. Dr. Rosia Williams, Willa Robinson (Lionel), Renee Rogers (Albert, Sr.), Clementine Chapman (Kenneth) and Nickole Volk (Randy); her stepdaughter, Julia Lumpkin (Arvid); 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, devoted niece Diane Neale and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1PM Saturday, October8, 2022, at Trinity Baptist Church, 209 E. Rose Garden Rd, West Point, VA 23181. A viewing will be held from 5PM to 7PM, Friday, October 7, 2022, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th street, West Point, VA 23181.
