Retired Major Eric “Ric” Tilton, 67, passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2022 in his home in Yorktown, Virginia.
Ric was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He was a 1973 graduate of Hatboro-Horshham HS where he was a member of the soccer, wrestling, track teams and the marching band. As a 1978 graduate of Penn State University, Ric continued his love of sports with the Penn State soccer, wrestling, and swim teams. He was also a member of Penn State’s Army ROTC program. Following his graduation from Penn State, Ric joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for 20 years.
Ric was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mildred Tilton. He is survived by his wife, Elfriede Holley-Tilton; his brothers, Thomas Tilton, Jr and Christopher Tilton (Nancy); his sisters, Merrili Tilton and Gisela (Rainer) Strahlberger; his stepdaughter, Jennifer (Lee); his grandchildren, Alexa and Brianna; his nephew, Andreas Seipp and his niece, Meghan.
Everyone who knew Ric could tell that he had a tremendous love and dedication to his grandchildren, Alexa and Brianna. He spent hours taking them to the park, beach, playground, running through the sprinkler, and even picked up Chick-Fil-A for them when they called him from school for a special favor. He was never able to say no to any request they had.
Ric also had a deep love for everything Penn State and the Philadelphia Eagles. You lost your chances of getting his attention if there was a game on with either team. His wife knew better than to plan any events away from the home if the Eagles were on. If Ric was not spending time with his granddaughters or enjoying a football game on TV, he was outside. He was a certified scuba diver, enjoyed being on and in the water, sailing and spending time in nature which included, hunting and hiking.
A Graveside Service for Ric will be held at 1pm on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Albert G. Horton Jr Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA. 23434. The family will receive friends following the service at their residence. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
