Robert Walton Sr., 74, of Williamsburg

Robert Walton Sr. (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Robert Lindsey Walton Sr. was born September 25, 1947, to the late Jim Fullwood and Elfreda Fleming.

At an early age, several significant moments would shape the story of his life. The passing of his parents at a young age, his relationship with extended family, and his acceptance of Christ as his personal Savior when he joined Slades Chapel AME Zion Church in Morganton, North Carolina.

After attending the Burke County Public Schools in Morganton, North Carolina, Robert’s life journey began when he joined the United States Army in 1967. His decorated service extended twenty years and six months with tours in Vietnam, Germany, and Korea.  He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained during combat in Vietnam. With his transition to civilian life, he continued service as a Marine Watercraft Instructor with the Army Transportation Corps, developing future generations of soldiers until his retirement in 2012. This concluded a total of forty-four years of Federal Service, earning him The Honorable Order of Saint Christopher award.

Robert’s passion was service to others. He explored this alongside his civilian career. In 1986, he joined CF Official’s Association where he held multiple roles over the years including an active official, scorekeeper, contract official, financial secretary, President, and lastly, as Vice President and trainer of new officials. During this time, he also balanced an active membership with the Historic First Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA, where he served several years as church clerk.

Butch, Bob, Robert, or Mr. Walton, all names you may have known him by, was loved, respected, and adored by all that knew him. When not active with his numerous professional responsibilities, his passions for fishing and camping with his sons, technology, and hosting kept him equally busy.  He also served as President of the Fullwood Family Affairs Association.

Robert’s life journey ended as he peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, August 6, 2022, in Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, VA, with his loving wife and children by his side.

His memory and legacy will forever resonate with his loving and devoted wife, Jennifer Walton; sons, Robert Walton Jr. (Sheylene) of Virginia, Germond Walton (Jillian) of Newnan, GA, Matthew Walton of Minneapolis, MN, and RJ Walton of Williamsburg, VA. granddaughter, Alivyah Walton of Newnan, GA; one brother, Marlin Thrower (Darla) of Arnold, PA; two sisters, Jeanette Fullwood of Charlotte, NC and FeFe Jordan (Charlie) of Riviera Beach, FL; sisters-in-law, Brenda Jones (Quincey) of Hampton, VA, and Paulette Ashby of Williamsburg, VA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving and devoted relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, August 22, 2022, at Bethel Restoration Center. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia, at a later date. Mr. Walton may be viewed from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, in the funeral home.  Facial coverings are required at all services.
