Charles Donald Rainey entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 10, 2022, surrounded by his precious wife, family, and loved ones. He was born on December 27, 1957, to the late Charles Nathaniel and Alma Celestine Rainey of Yorktown, VA. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Rainey, and sister, Joann Rainey.
Donald, as he was so fondly known, attended the York County Public Schools. He worked for York County as a landscaper for forty years.
He was passionate about his wife, family, and horses. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends at the horse stable and training and caring for horses. He was a devoted North Carolina Tar Heels and Las Vegas Raiders fan.
Charles was very humble and had a quiet, easygoing manner with a heart full of kindness and giving. He loved his wife and family more than life itself. He enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and taking her for rides to the beach. You could often find Charles at his old home place talking and laughing with family and friends, at home sitting on the porch relaxing, or at Wawa’s for a cup of coffee.
Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty years, Wanda Adkins Rainey; three sisters, Deborah Combs, Peggy Dillard (Maynard), and Tracey Sumblin (Richard), all of Yorktown, VA; brother, Douglas Rainey (Melinda) of Yorktown, VA; three aunts and two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022, in Little Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Wayne Tucker officiating. Interment to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Mr. Rainey may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church. Facial coverings are required for all services.
