
NEWPORT NEWS — Mary Cleon Jackson passed away in her sleep on February 19, 2022 at James River Convalescent in Newport News, VA. Many people knew her as “Jackie”. She was born in Calypso, North Carolina. She was a second mom to many children during her years as a day care provider. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Ware Neck where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Cleon loved to sew and do ceramic crafts. She dearly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cleon was preceded in death by her parents, David Grice and Lillie Mae Grice; her husband, Walter Nathan Jackson and her son, Steve Jackson. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Gary Jackson and wife, Stephanie of Newport News; her daughter, Susan VanHorn from Gloucester; grandchildren, Chris and Anastasia Jackson, Patrick Jackson and Marie Newman, Clint and Heather Jackson, Andrea and Lee Truong, Michael and Molly VanHorn and Crystal and Jason Harvey; great-grandchildren, Evan Jackson, Sophia Jackson, Kyle Jackson, Marc Jackson, Abigail Jackson, Caroline Jackson, Benjamin Jackson, Kenji Truong, Tatum Truong, Ayden VanHorn, Eyan VanHorn, Breckin Harvey, and Brenna Harvey.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Interment will be Private at Peninsula Memorial Park.
