NEWPORT NEWS — Janice Manning Rowe, 82, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 17, 2022.
Janice Manning was born in Bethel, NC. She was the oldest child born to Joe and Ruby Manning. When Janice was in elementary school the family moved to Newport News where she went to Parkview Elementary School. As a young girl, God gifted her with a talented singing voice where she sang at various church events. She participated in contests where she met the love of her life and future husband, Phillip. They sang together on a live show called, Old Dominion Barn Dance in Richmond. They sang together at many events for years. Janice worked at the Bank of Warwick and for various school systems. In 1975 she started work at Fairlanes Hidenwood Bowling Center, producing 15 years of friends, hard work and good times. She belonged to Colony Friends Church from 1990 to 2019 where she loved teaching Sunday School.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruby Manning and her brother, William J. Manning. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Phillip Rowe; their son, Gary Rowe (Karen); grandsons, Ryan Rowe and Jamie Rowe and great-grandson, Liam; her brother-in-law, Barry Rowe (Anita); nieces, Wende Rowe Hawk (Shaeffer), Amy Rowe McClure (James), Jennifer Manning Powell (Brian); nephew, Bill Manning Jr. (Grace) and 13 great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Riverside Hospice staff – especially Kathy Waggoner, Kenyana Moses, Sheila Beacham and Cheralynn Spratley Shearn.
The Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home with Interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
