WILLIAMSBURG — Mrs. Ernestine Washington Davenport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at her home in Williamsburg, following a prolonged illness. Ernestine was born on August 18, 1935, in The Grove Community of Williamsburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Doris Washington, and sister, Joyce.
She is survived by her loving, devoted and caring husband and soulmate of 59 years, Ulysses T. Davenport; her sister, Rosalind Byrd; and a host of cousins and lifelong friends.
Ernestine focused her career to serve the community as a healthcare provider, which was a testament to her kind and caring nature. She also expressed gratitude for the phenomenal healthcare she received. The family would like to thank Tidewater Physicians Medical Group and Sentara Hospice Care for exceptional care throughout Ernestine’s illness.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 15, 2022, in Morning Glory Baptist Church Cemetery, 8956 Morning Glory Rd, Gloucester, VA 23061. You are invited to say your goodbyes and reflect on sweet memories as the family celebrates her life on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 4 – 6 pm at Whiting’s Funeral Home.
