WILLIAMSBURG — Charles William Hill, Jr. 63, a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle took his final resting place with the Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 while at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. He was born in Williamsburg, VA to Ruby Jean Dorsey and the late, Charles William Hill, Sr. Charles grew up in Asbury Park, NJ where he attended Asbury Park High School. He relocated to Valdosta, GA where he lived for several years of his adult life. After losing his beloved companion, Jean Strout in 2014, Charles decided to be surrounded by the ones who loved him most…family and he returned to Williamsburg, VA .
When Charles was diagnosed with cancer, he began a spiritual journey where he answered his calling to Christ. In October, 2019 Charles rededicated his life to Christ making him his own personal savior.
Charles leaves to carry on his name and honor his memory, his loving mother, Ruby Jean Dorsey, VA; his loving children, Charles Handberry (Paula), Shane Handberry, Kendra McKenzie (Kevin) all of NC; his sister, Rosemary Fraser, VA; his brothers, Izeem Carpenter (Tywana), William Carpenter (Maria), Steven Antoine, VA; his Auntie Celeste Waul, MD; his Uncle Herman Goodrich (Deborah)VA and 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
Charles was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helen Holmes-Reid; Aunt Rose Mae Davis-Travis; Aunt Rugene Reid; father, Charles William Sr; Uncles Paul, Nathaniel, George, and Leon Reid and two step-fathers, William R. Carpenter and Roland Lewis Dorsey.
A Home Going Service will be held Saturday, December 18,2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA by Pastor Wayne Tucker. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 11:00 a.m. Services entrusted to Weymouth Funeral Home, Newport News, VA.
