NEWPORT NEWS — Vera Carter, 61, unexpectedly departed this life on December 1, 2021 at her home in Newport News, VA. A visitation will be Wednesday Dec. 8, 2021 between 3pm to 6pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home (Denbigh Chapel) in Newport News. A memorial service will be held 12pm on Thursday Dec. 9, 2021 at Altmeyer Funeral Home (Denbigh Chapel). Vera was born in Newport News, VA to Barbara (Williams) Simpson and Walter Simpson on August 8, 1960. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver. Vera is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara (Williams) Simpson. Vera is survived by her children: Lameka Carter and Trifton Carter Sr. (Julienne); ex-husband Vernon Carter III; her siblings: Cheryl Branch, Phyllis Smith, Jettsy Simpson, Walter Simpson Jr., and Audra Simpson; her father Walter Simpson Sr.; her grandson Trifton Carter Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
