NEWPORT NEWS — John Wayne Pipkin, 66, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 26, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. In sorrow and sadness, we rejoice in knowing that he has won the greatest victory of his life, going to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.
John was a native of Newport News, graduating from Warwick High School. He was an audacious man who loved life. Over the years, his adventures led him to Florida then back to Virginia where he met the love of his life, Fay. He treasured Fay from the moment they met. The love they had for each other is unparalleled.
John was also a graduate of the Dominion Power apprentice school. John was a hardworking dedicated employee of Dominion Power for 20-plus years; he was fortunate to celebrate retirement. In retirement, he enjoyed his favorite hobbies, such as, gardening, landscaping his backyard, fishing, camping, and caring for his bunny, fishpond, and tanks. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved an impromptu pool party on a summer afternoon! Those were some of his best days with everyone.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Addie Pipkin; as well as his brother, Vernon Pipkin Jr.
Left to cherish his fond memories are his devoted wife, Fay Pipkin; children and their spouses, Kerry Bland (Stephanie), Casey Spencer (Max), Jason Pipkin and Jeremy Pipkin; grandchildren, Jacob Pipkin, Macy Spencer, Talen Bland, Lennon Bland, Jordan Pipkin, Ryan Pipkin, Samantha Pipkin, Avyana Pipkin, Victoria Pipkin, and Arabella Pipkin; sister, Donna Buckner (Dennis); brother, Tim Pipkin (Lisa); mother and father-in-law, Virgil and Ruth Smith; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 3, at Weymouth Funeral Home with a interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
