NEWPORT NEWS — William Albert “Bill” Browning, 80, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Riverside Hospital and was taken home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Bill was born in Aiken, South Carolina, to William and Etta Browning. He grew up in The Salvation Army, where his father was a pastor and ran a men’s social. This is where he developed a true admiration for his dad. He loved sports and played football, baseball and ran track in high school. His passion was baseball, which he shared with all his grandsons. He lived in Florida for a while and had a lot of wonderful memories and family stories.

His biggest passion was the love of his life, Dorothy. His love for her was endless. They were married Dec. 29, 1962, in Washington, D.C. They were married for 57 years. He was her caregiver and advocate until her passing last April 8th. She was truly everything to him and after her passing, he really reinvested himself into his faith. He used to always say your mom’s faith was simple, “she just believed,” and that is how I am going to view my faith moving forward.

Bill just moved into his first apartment and was relishing his newly found independence and love for cooking.

Bill was preceded in death by his beautiful bride of 57 years, Dorothy Browning; parents, Al and Etta Browning; and brother, Doug Browning.

He leaves behind three children, William Browning III, and his wife, Terry, Kim Mclean and Sean Browning, and his wife, Kendra; eight grandchildren, Will Browning, Sarah Dickens, John Browning, Mike Rock, Chris Rock, Eric Browning, Veronica Grady and Jacob Browning; and five great-grandchildren, Paisley, Callan, William IV, Amelia, Isla and Olivia.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Salvation Army.

Share online condolences with the family at Weymouth Funeral Home.
