WILLIAMSBURG — Alexandra Prassas, 89, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021. Born in Karpenisi, Greece, she came to the United States as a bride in 1963 and was widely known in the community as Alexa or Mama.
Over the years, she worked in numerous family businesses owned by her husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Demetrios K. Florakis and Ekaterini Leloudis Florakis; sisters, Angeliki Panagiotopoulou and Electra Tsahri; brother, Konstantinos D. Florakis; and nephew, Demetrios Panagiotopoulos, all of Greece.
Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, and she was especially proud of their educations. Alexa is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Prassas; daughters, Katherine Protogyrou (Andrew), Joanne Prassas, Maria Williams (Joe); son, George Prassas (Rita); grandchildren, Antoni and Demetra Protogyrou and Alexis, Chrisanthi and Yianni Prassas; brother Laki Florakis (MaryAnn) of Williamsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews, both in the United States and Greece.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with burial immediately following in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
