Henry Carter Lindsey, 89, taught high school biology for 40 years

WILLIAMSBURG — Henry Carter Lindsey, 89, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Jean Lindsey.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Postman (Eric); and grandsons, Zachary Postman (Natalie) and Nathan Postman (Kelsey). He is also survived by his wife of two years, Tracey Eileen Lindsey, who was a friend and companion in his final years.

Henry grew up in Farmville. He went from raising bees on his porch to studying science at “Mr. Jefferson’s University.” He was a medic in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. They moved to Williamsburg, where he taught high school biology for 40 years.

Henry served as an EMT for James City County Rescue Squad and was president of the volunteers. Later, he became a driver for the American Cancer Society. He also was a lifetime member of the NRA. Henry had many interests, including Shakespeare, jazz and world travel. He was an accomplished photographer, a passion that he passed along to and shared with Diane.

A graveside service will be held at 2:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at Williamsburg Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Henry’s life with a donation to the James City County Rescue Squad.
