Charles H. “Buddy” Rice Jr., 70, a resident of Yorktown, and most recently of Waverly Health and Rehab Center for the past year and a half, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 29, 2020. He was a native of Newport News.
Buddy loved everyone and was a joy to be around. He loved to joke around and make people laugh. He loved his family and the many animals they had over the years. He loved and had the pleasure of meeting Dolly Parton; the two had their picture taken together. He would have loved to meet Daisy Duke; that was one of his favorite shows. He loved all of his caregivers over the past years, Charlene Martin, Michele Zatorski, Jessie Carmine, Alexis Schanz, Rita Byrd and many others. Even though he couldn’t remember their names sometimes, he still appreciated everything they did for him, especially if they snuck him “chaw” that he wasn’t supposed to have.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maimie Rice; and brother, Robert Rice.
He is survived by his children, Barry Rice (Bobbi Johnston) and Wendy Lamb (Johnny); grandchildren, Erica Rice and Kaitlyn Woods; nephews, Robbie Rice (Brandy) and Johnathan Rice (Dallas) and their children, Landin, Everleigh and Ella; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Rice.
No services are planned at this time.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary (PAWS), P.O. Box 2204, Poquoson, VA 23662.
Share online condolences with the family at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
