
Janice Marie McClung, 70, a longtime resident of Newport News, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 7, 2020, at home.
She was born in 1949 in Ashland, Kentucky, to the late James and Agnes Brown. She married longtime love and friend, Paul E. McClung Sr., Oct. 14, 1968, in Wise.
Janice graduated in 1967 from Paul G. Blazer High School, Ashland. She continued her education at Thomas Nelson Community College, from which she received an A.A. Degree in Nursing. Janice loved crafting and sewing dolls, her hands were rarely still. She actively kept up with and organized photo scrapbooks for the entire family. She was president of High Hopes Investment Club, and during her tenure, High Hopes prospered and grew. She was one of the first female contractor sales associates for Lowe’s in Newport News. She worked in medical supply at Riverside Hospital.
Janice is survived by her husband, Paul E. McClung Sr.; son and wife, Paul Jr. and Sandi; daughter, Kimberly; granddaughter, Emily; sister and husband, Rohna and Gary Bishop; brothers, Danny, George and Ronald Brown; and good friends, Sharon, Joanne and Richard.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, James and Agnes Brown; and brothers, Jim Jr. and Gregory.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, March 12, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with a celebration of life service following at noon in the chapel. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 13, at Peninsula Memorial Gardens.
