On Thursday, May 16, 2019, God, in His infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of our beloved Stephen Pernell Foxx Jr., 62, and he entered into his eternal rest. Affectionately known as Steve, he was born Dec. 28, 1956, to the late Lucy and Stephen P. Foxx Sr. of Virginia.
Stephen was educated in New Kent County Schools, graduating in 1976. After high school, Stephen held several jobs and later joined the U.S. Army. He proudly and faithfully served his country, receiving an honorable discharge. Upon discharge from the Army, he held several jobs and retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation after 17 years of service.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined St. Luke Baptist Church. Stephen met the love of his life, and on June 23, 2001, he married the former Sheryl Johnson of Philadelphia.
He loved cooking, baking, and sharing his delicious food with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching television, especially sports. The Washington Redskins was his favorite team. He was what you call a die-hard Redskins fan. Stephen was a kind and laid back person who enjoyed people, and people enjoyed him. He will be greatly missed by many.
Stephen leaves to cherish his precious memories with his wife, Sheryl Foxx; children, Shelton, Darnell, Amelia and Carmella; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; mother, Lucy Foxx of West Point; four sisters, Audrey Finn, Commesha Samuel (Thomas) of West Point, Clara Gary (George) of Richmond and Valerie Williams of Alexandria; three brothers, Gary Foxx of West Point, Kevin Foxx of Newport News and Robert Thompson (Phyllis) of Richmond; two aunts, Pearl Decosta of Wilmington, Deleware, and Evelyn Rogers of Richmond; two uncles, George Roane of West Point and James Smallwood of York, Pennsylvania; seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; and a host nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A service to celebrate Stephen’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 25, at St. Luke Baptist Church, West Point, with the Rev. Morris L. Randall Sr. officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are to assemble at the church by 10:30 a.m. Mr. Foxx may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services at the church.
