Michael Patrick Malo, 39, of Virginia and Sydney, Australia, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019.
Michael was born April 11, 1979, in Fairfax. He enjoyed his childhood growing up on Scarborough Street, where he met many lifelong friends who became part of his family. He graduated from Hayfield High School.
He spent several years living in Washington,D.C.. In 2005, Michael moved to Sydney, Australia, to attend the Taft Culinary Institute. He fell in love with Australia and obtained dual citizenship. While there, he met his partner, Jon Short. Michael and Jon enjoyed their lives in Sydney which they shared with their beloved cat, Carter Von Sexy Pants.
Michael’s passion for life included traveling all over the world, trivia and his love of music. His choice of music was the soundtrack of his life. Michael’s passions fueled many fast friendships, good times and great memories. Michael will be forever remembered as the best son, brother and friend.
He is survived by his mother, Sherri Malo; sister, Danielle Malo; uncles, Michael (Carol) Malo and Patrick (Barbara) Malo; nieces, Suzanne (Lee) Fuller and Kathie (Tom) Grau; and nephew, David (Christina) Bacus.
A special tribute and celebration of his life will be held with family and friends at their home in Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be given to the Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
