Annie Muriel Estes, 92, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James William Estes. Muriel was born and grew up in Colquitt, Georgia.
While her husband served in the U.S. Army, she traveled overseas to Japan and France. As a dedicated military wife, she had many responsibilities, many times traveling alone with her three children. Muriel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family was her life.
She lived in Williamsburg for over 60 years and was charter member of Grace Baptist Church and member of the Red Hats. Her passion was gardening in her many flower beds, and she could grow anything. One of her many accomplishments was her time as a Colonial Williamsburg costumed interrupter at the Millinery Shop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. “Bill” Estes; and son, James “Jimmy” W. Estes.
She is survived by her daughters, Chicquita McCarthy and Delores “Dorie” Estes; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Estes Richardson; grandchildren, Cathy Callis, Scott Callis, Cherie Apperson, MaryJane Allen, Billy Estes, Chuck Phillips and “K.D.” Callis; and 10 great-children.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Bucktrout Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at the funeral home with burial following in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
The family is very grateful for the services and care given by Riverside Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Riverside Hospice.
