Patricia Mary Dean, 80, of Virginia Beach, Va., passed away peacefully Saturday, March 31, 2018. She was born April 24, 1937, in New York City, the daughter of James and Anna McCullough.
Having been told as a child that she would never be a mother due to having had rheumatic fever, Pat’s greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Her main focus in life was for her children to be happy, healthy and successful. She willingly sacrificed throughout her life to see this dream fulfilled. Her wish, which she repeated often, was that we would celebrate her life when God takes her back to heaven, not mourn it. Patricia worked for Catholic Family Services for many years and had a real passion working with foster kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna McCullough; brothers, James and George McCullough; and son, Todd O’Sullivan of Daytona Beach, Fla.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Danny D. Dean; children and spouses, Kenneth O’Sullivan (Linda) of Canton, Mich., Bryan O’Sullivan of Virginia Beach, Va., Steven O’Sullivan (Tracy) of Oviedo, Fla., Michael Dean of Morgantown, W.Va., and Diane Gomes (Jack) of Clermont, Fla.; grandchildren, Melissa, Ryan, Mary Patricia, Brittany, Anna Marie, Cheyenne, Christina and Anthony; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
