William James Montgomery Jr., 88, son of the late William James Montgomery Sr. and Wilhemina Shaw Montgomery, was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Sumter, S.C. He departed this life Friday, March 30, 2018, at his home in Virginia Beach, Va.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maggie Lewis and Wilhemina Montgomery; and three brothers, Willie Lewis Montgomery, Roy Lee Montgomery and Moses Montgomery.
William attended Howard Chapel School in Maysville, S.C. When he completed school, William was drafted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. After retiring from the military, William worked at Santee Printworks in Sumter, S.C., as a machinist and retired after 40 years’ employment. William enjoyed working on his cars as a hobby.
He leaves to cherish his three loving sisters, Rebecca Jenkins of Virginia Beach, Va., Dorothy Mae McCoy of Sumter, S.C., and Mary Levine of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Johnny Jenkins of Virginia Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday,
April 4, at Beach Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach. A celebration of life will follow visitation at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
