Diana Matesic O’Brien, 72, of Virginia Beach, Va., loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

Diana was born May 29, 1945, in Miami, Fla., to Anthony and Laura Matesic, who preceded her in death. She grew up in South Baltimore with her brothers, Tony and David, and she always considered herself a city girl. She was a realtor emeritus serving the Hampton Roads area for more than 40 years and was known for her high ethical standards and reliability. Diana loved her country, the U.S. military, fourth of July fireworks, the blackened tuna at Taste Unlimited, snow, Oysters William, Judge Judy, Candy Crush and a good Coke float religiously every night. She was an unapologetic braggart when it came to her children and grandchildren, who she adored above all else.

She is survived by her children, Patrick O’Brien of Deleon Springs, Fla., Sean O’Brien of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kelly Smith of Simsbury, Conn. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Craig, Jeffrey, Caroline, Sean, Austin, Madison, Logan and Shannon, who will miss her love, wisdom and generous spirit.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Diana’s name to Sandy Hook Promise or the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
