Susan Dodson Parker, 87, formerly of the 600 block of Fleet Drive, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her daughters and caretaker.
Susan was born July 29, 1930, in Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late William P. Dodson and Virginia W. Dodson and was a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach. She was a 1947 graduate of Oceana High School and attended Mary Washington College. Susan was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church and a proud member of their “Peanut Group.”
Everyone who knew Susan was aware of her kindness, love of nature and gardening, and of all living creatures; especially her dogs, past and present.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ocie Parker Jr.; and son, William D. Parker. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary P. Belk (Christopher) and Susan P. Bousquet (Michael); three grandchildren, Sarah V. Belk, Michelle M. Bousquet and Susie E. Bousquet; and her beloved dog, Buckles.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dee Cooper, N.P., Wellness Clinic, Atlantic Shores Retirement Community, for her medical guidance and caring and to all of the amazing caretakers who have come into our lives over the past three years. We especially want to express our sincere gratitude to Elizabeth Lomax, who has been with our family from the beginning, for her compassion, hard work, and loyalty, and to Laura Salisbury
for her continued support and love. We would also like to thank Comfort Care Hospice for guiding us through the final days of mom’s life journey.
She is now in heaven with many of her friends and family and no longer has to say “goodbye” to her son, William.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach
with the Rev. Cameron Randle officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. If you have a loved one requiring special care, please visit them often and tell them how much you love them.
