Marion Heltzel Seder, 97, had a knack for making others feel comfortable and appreciated

Marion Heltzel Seder

Marion Heltzel Seder passed away peacefully Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the age of 97. She was born in Hinton, W.Va., on Dec. 18, 1919, and lived in the Chicago and Detroit areas before retiring to Virginia.

She attended Stephens College in Missouri and graduated from Northwestern University. She met her husband, Arthur R. Seder Jr., at a Newcomers Dance at Northwestern, and they married in 1942 and were able to celebrate their 73rd anniversary before Art’s death in 2015.

Marion was a homemaker and volunteer who loved her family above all else. She was kind to all and had a dazzling smile.

She loved playing board and card games (she was playing games with her daughter the morning of her passing), reading, art, traveling (she loved the Cotswolds in England), eating out and meeting new people. She had a knack for making anyone feel comfortable and appreciated in her presence.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband and her son, James Arthur Seder. She is survived by her daughters, Susan LaHoda and Beth Whistler, and Beth’s husband, Joe; grandchildren, Elizabeth Tyrrell, and her husband, Jayson, Katherine Moos, and her husband, Steven, Jennifer Whistler, Rachel LaHoda and Ethan LaHoda; and great-grandchildren Ian, Simiana and Ronin Tyrrell and Eloise and Adeline Moos.

Marion enriched the lives of many, many people; had a beautiful, long life; and was deeply loved. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Williamsburg Landing’s Benevolence Fund.
