Vera J. Weimer, 96, founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church

Vera J. Weimer, 96, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017. Born in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Doyle and the widow of Paul H. Weimer, the love of her life for 61 years.

Vera’s greatest joy in life was her family and her faith. She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Church of St. Mark and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, music and dancing.

Left to cherish her memory are 10 daughters, Becky Hall (Jimmy) of Maryland, Margaret Davenport (Hubert) of North Carolina, Sharon Roper (Rom) of Roanoke, Va., Jane Summerlin (Steve), Claudette Moffett (Bill), Mary Witcher (Allen), Anna Boyd (Bob), Debbie Carew (B.J.), Paula Talley (David), and Patty Barnhardt (E.C.), all of Virginia Beach; three sons, Vincent Weimer (Janice) of Fredericksburg, Va., Harry Weimer (Leslie) and David Weimer (Debbie), both of Virginia Beach; and 28 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with a wake service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at the Catholic Church of St. Mark by Father Anthony Mpungu. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Home, 6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, VA 23502.
