Doris Palmore Watson, 83, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 28, 2016, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Doris was born March 23, 1933, in Blackstone, Va., to the late Annie and Kenneth Palmore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harry A. Watson; her brothers, Jimmy, Douglas, Monk, Johnny, and Wesley Palmore; and sisters, Virginia Goodnow, Ruth Coe, and Helen Inge.
Doris was a homemaker for many years, then went to work as a receptionist for Eastern Academy. In 1982, she went to work for the city of Norfolk and retired in 1995.
She was a loving wife, mother, Mumu, and friend. Doris had a sweet, gentle and kind spirit. She was very giving and always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. Doris was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church for 55 years and a current member of Suburban Christian Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Chitty and Cathy Hodges (Mike); her sons, Chris Watson (Diane) and Brian Watson (Susan); her seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Ann Taylor Dahm; brothers-in-law, Warren C. Watson and J.B. Inge; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Palmore and Pat Palmore; a close niece, Diana Marshall; and numerous very special nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at Suburban Christian Church, 5132 Belamy Manor Dr., with Pastor Todd Haynes officiating. The burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, Va., with Pastor Wayne Woodard officiating.
