Malcolm Lee Simmons, lifetime member of Virginia Beach Genealogical Society

Retired U.S. Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Malcolm Lee Simmons went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2016, after a long illness. Born in Durham, N.C., he was the son of Clyde M. and Ethel Melton Simmons.

He was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, life member of the Virginia Beach Genealogical Society, member of Harmony Lodge 17 FAAM in Washington, D.C., and member of Kings Grant Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and on several committees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie M. Simmons; and sisters, Helen Franklin, Jacqueline Wiggins and Doris Latta.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Mary Anne Brown Simmons; his children, Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Sherman, M. Lee Simmons Jr. (Patricia) and Margaret Anderson (Scott); grandchildren, Brian Simmons, Stephanie Simmons, Rachel Anderson Ross (Jorge), Carly Sherman and Holly Sherman; and many beloved relatives and friends. He made a difference to those he came into contact with and will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Kings Grant Baptist Church. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kings Grant Baptist Church Benevolent Endowment Fund, 873 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452; or a charity of your choice.
