Karen Sheffer Bazar, 65, a native of Charleston, W.Va., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 19, 2016. She was the daughter of the late David and Evelyn Sheffer. Mrs. Bazar was a graduate of Old Dominion University.
She was the loving wife of 37 years to the late William ‘Billy’ Bazar.
She is survived by her daughter, Dara Bazar Tucker, and her husband, Zach, of Keysville; son, Bradly Michael Bazar of Virginia Beach; grandson, Robert Dalton Tucker of Keysville; brothers, Dr. Morey Sheffer, and his wife, Lynne, of Charlotte, N.C., and Hank Sheffer, and his wife, Susan, of Virginia Beach; and sister-in-law, Ellen Bazar Harris, and her husband, Jonathan, of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces, Jeffrey Stredler, and his wife, Laurie, of Virginia Beach, Jason Bazar, and his wife, Dee Ann, of New York, N.Y., Andrew Stredler of Virginia Beach, Jennifer Stredler Sabatino, and her husband, Steve, of Virginia Beach, Darin Bazar, and wife, Azalea, of Silverthorne, Colo., David Sheffer, and his wife, Julie, of Charlotte, N.C., and Austin Sheffer of Blacksburg.; and many great-nieces and nephews that she truly adored.
For many years, she worked as a dental assistant before staying home to care for her children. She was an active member of the Sisterhood of Temple Israel and an avid Penn State Nittany Lions, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Dallas Cowboys’ fan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Eggert and the staff at Sentara Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialists and the nurses at Sentara Norfolk General Heart Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.
A graveside funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will be sitting at the home of Hank and Sue Sheffer, 2253 Margaret Drive, Virginia Beach, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 21, and Tuesday, March 22.
