Loretta I. Davis, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the age of 83. She was born October 20, 1932, in Cambridge, Mass., to the late Dennis F. Collins and Mary Hasle Collins. She spent her early years in Watertown, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Leonard G. Davis, with whom she is now reunited.
She leaves behind four daughters, Leslie Overton, and her husband, Greg, of Hayes, Julia Weir, and her husband, Duncan, of Williamsburg, Lisa Jones, and her husband, David, of Zuni and Janine Gardner of Chesapeake. She is survived by her brother, James Collins of Mission Viejo, Calif., and her sisters, Mary Caro of Wheaton, Ill., and Caroline Gosse of Ashland, N.H. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael Jones, Gregory Overton, Lee Jones, Matthew Overton, Melissa Coates, Katie Gardner and Sam Gardner; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sophie Dutch and Theresa Sharrigan; and her best friend, Essie Hall.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her many houseplants, especially her African Violets. She was an excellent seamstress and she enjoyed sewing clothes for her four daughters and her grandchildren throughout her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the caring staff at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and to Medi Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of Loretta.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Altmeyer Funeral Home with a burial in Rosewood Memorial Park to follow.
