
Benjamin Brown, 82, formerly of Chesapeake, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at The Gardens of Virginia Beach Assisted Living facility.
Born in Halifax County, N.C., Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Iris; and parents, John Thomas Brown and Frances Jenkins Brown. Survivors include a son, Samuel J. Brown (Chris) of Kathleen, Ga.; daughters, Deborah B. Darnell (Mike) of Chesapeake and Jennifer S. Gwaltney (David) of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and his beloved granddog, Chrissy.
Ben was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk, where he was active in the ‘Young at Heart’ fellowship. A graduate of Cradock High School, Ben retired from a career with the civil service as an electronics technician. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and in the Virginia National Guard.
A funeral was conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, followed by a reception. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
