
Harry Gilbert O’Connor, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at his residence.
Mr. O’Connor was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1947. He went on to work for Piedmont Airlines and retired as senior captain after 36 years. He was the ‘best dad ever’ and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen P. O’Connor; a brother, Donald O’Connor; and a sister, Sally Staples.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Barkley (James); a brother, William F. O’Connor Jr.; a sister, Joyce Johnson; two grandchildren, René Barkley and Sarah Beach (Noah); and two great-grandchildren, Levi and Tanner Beach.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday March 14, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. Special thanks to his caregiver, Carol West, and her friend, John, as well as the Westminster Canterbury Hospice Team.
