Mary Price Simmons Conner, 96, loved bridge, family and travel

Mary Price Simmons Conner passed peacefully in her sleep January 3, 2016, in Gloucester, Va.

Born in Chatham County, North Carolina, on June 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John Anderson Simmons and Stella Snead Simmons. She was raised in Mebane and Greensboro, North Carolina, and traveled the world as a military wife.

She was a resident of Williamsburg since 1949 and was a member of the Williamsburg Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday school class. She was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She enjoyed golf, boating, travel, flower gardening, and most of all bridge. She played bridge twice a month until she was about 93 years old. We remind ourselves that hers was a life well lived, full of love, family and travel with enjoyable memories and experiences. We will all fall back on good memories of her pretty blue eyes and smile.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Roy Conner and her brothers John Delmar Simmons, William Ledford Simmons, James Gaylord Simmons, and Wayne Elliott Simmons.

Surviving are her sister Norma Lee Beckmann, of Henderson, Nevada, her daughter Patricia Ann Conner (Wally Bowler) of Gloucester; son, Timothy Hugh Conner of Williamsburg; three granddaughters (Maryann Haynie Hogge, Ainsley Conner Tetrault, and Alison Beth Conner) two great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A private graveside service will be held Jan. 9, 2016 at Williamsburg Memorial Park.

Those who wish may make memorials to the National Breast Cancer Foundation or the Air Warrior Courage Foundation.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Nelsen Funeral Home.
