Michael Storm Jr., 67, national judo referee, master scuba instructor and Beach schools teacher, principal and administrator

Michael Storm, Jr., 67, passed away on November 24, 2015. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on October 5, 1948 to the late Michael and the late Ruth Storm.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Alberta Heidorn and brother-in-law, Lawrence Heidorn. Michael is survived by nephews, Larry and Martin Heidorn; niece, Ruth Gaydosh and their families; Tidewater Judo Club family; VA Beach Public Schools family; and his AARP family.

Michael was highly educated, receiving advanced degrees from Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech. He served as teacher, principal, and administrator for Virginia Beach Public Schools. He taught English for the YMCA in Yokohama, Japan and started his Judo career at a young age mentored by Sensei Don Schneider, Rokudan. Michael received the rank of Rokudan from the Kodakan in Japan. He is a life-long member of USJF and was involved in the day to day operations of the Tidewater Judo Club mentoring Sensei Pete Graham. He also served as a National Judo Referee, a master scuba instructor and an AARP chapter President, liaison officer.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 10 am, Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach.  Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.
