Albert Eugene “Lindy” Linenberger died Sunday, 22 November 2015 at his home in Williamsburg, VA.
He was 82 years old and is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Mae Woods McCall; father, Albert E. Linenberger; and step-father James W. McCall.
He leaves the love of his life with 44 years together, Virginia Schultz; sisters Caroline Mae Woollard and Nora M. Fellows; brother-in-law, Mike Fellows; granddaughters Krista and Alexa Johnson; nieces Renee, Elizabeth, Ashleigh, Chelsea and Madeline; nephew Christian; step daughter Sandy Johnson; former son-in-law and friend Scott Johnson; longtime family friends John and Sandy Brudvig, and Cathy Haven.
Born in La Crosse, Kansas, he was reared in Great Bend Kansas. He became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1950. That same year, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served at sea and completed martial arts training in Japan, leading to his becoming an instructor for military personnel. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1954, enlisting in the U.S. Air Force shortly thereafter.
His assignments included senior operational responsibilities at the Strategic Air Command, Headquarters Command Post at Offutt AFB; air crew duty; overseas assignment in Madrid Spain, and recruiter duty in Omaha Nebraska. He retired from active service on 1 December 1970.
Mr. Linenberger was a longtime resident of Williamsburg, VA. He was the founding investor in the highly successful fashion start-up store Ella-Rue.com, owned and operated by granddaughters Krista and Alexa in Georgetown, DC.
He enjoyed cooking, restoring cars, woodworking, gardening, volunteering with the American Red Cross, collecting cowboy boots, showing love for animals and helping anyone in need. As an avid believer in American exceptionalism and patriotism, he watched Bill O’Reilly nightly.
Lindy is now reunited with his recently deceased dog “Lucky” as he leaves behind beloved family dog Tessa.
He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors. Donations can be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
