Surrounded by the love and warmth of her children and grandchildren, Marilyn Richards McGinty died on Nov. 3, 2015, at the age of 79.

It was a sunny Election Day – “a good day for the Democrats” as she liked to say. Marilyn was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania and was raised in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. In 1956 she married John J. McGinty, of Hawley, Pennsylvania. They raised their children in Philadelphia.

Marilyn attended Keystone Junior College and later received a degree from Antioch University. After her retirement from a career as the chief financial officer of the Woodhaven Center, Marilyn moved to Williamsburg.

Marilyn was passionate about children and was a devoted nanny to three of her grandchildren as well as working at the Bruton Parish nursery. She was also passionate about politics and she spent many years volunteering for the Democratic party as well as serving on the Williamsburg Electoral Board.

She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Shirley.

Marilyn is survived by her brothers, Bob Richards (Dottie) and Ernie Ramirez, of Honesdale, Pennsylvania and George Rogers (Teresa), of North Syracuse, Pennsylvania; children, Maureen McGinty Esq. (Les Dias Esq.), Patti Mittleman (Dr. Alan), the Honorable Mike McGinty (Sharon), Margaret McGinty and Jack McGinty; and grandchildren, Ari, Joel, Devon, Connor, Miyuki, Hans and Brendan.

The family invite friends and loved ones to join them in a celebration of Marilyn’s life at 10 a.m. Nov. 22, 2015, at Pen Ryn Estate in Philadelphia. Family will be gathered one hour prior to the service for visitation.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Please leave online condolences for the family Nelsen Funeral Home.
