Shelby Leigh Pressley, of Williamsburg, died Nov. 1, 2015, at the age of 22.
She joins her father, Roderick Paulsen, who passed away in 1997. Shelby was born in Pueblo, Colorado and moved to Virginia with her mother Lisa and her sister, Heather, shortly after Roderick’s death. She then grew up in the Williamsburg area.
Shelby was a dedicated cheerleader at Bruton High School until she graduated in 2011. She went on multiple mission trips and church retreats while she was in high school and continued showing her love for others through coaching and being an EMT. Shelby was also a devoted mother of two young children, Peyton and Jayce, whom she loved and adored.
Shelby was currently working as a cheerleading coach at Queens Lake Middle School and at Lumber Liquidators as an installation project coordinator. She was an EMT and planned on teaching a course at New Horizons in the upcoming school year.
She is survived by her mother, Lisa Matykowski; stepdads, John Strong and Charles Matykowski; young children, Peyton and Jayce; sisters, Heather Fontaine and Megan Strong; brother-in-law, Lucas Fontaine; brother, Jonathan Strong; niece, Ashlyn Fontaine; stepbrothers, Christopher Strong, Kyle Matykowski and David Matykowski; grandparents; as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held beginning with a visitation at 11 a.m., followed by a service at noon, on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Please wear pink and sparkles as this is what Shelby would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bruton High School or Queens Lake Middle School cheerleading teams. Checks may be written to Lisa Matykowski, 119 Wellington Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23185. On the Memo line, please put “Cheer.”
