Cmdr. Gerald “Jerry” Friedman, of Virginia Beach, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at River Pointe Nursing Home in Virginia Beach, at the age of 63. His passing was from the result of Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jerry was born on July 8, 1952, to Lt. Cmdr. Phillip, U.S. Navy retired, and Margaret Davis Friedman, in Washington, D.C. He leaves behind a younger brother, Mark, of Hyattsville, Maryland.
Jerry married Lesley Jean McGowan, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, on Sept. 13, 1972. He also leaves behind Phillip and Jamie Kiral Friedman and their two children, Chloe and Andrew, of Virginia Beach; Jeremy Reid and Michelle Lavoie Friedman and their daughter, Annabelle, of Virginia Beach; Alexandria Lee and James Vaughn, of Hawaii and their two children, Lillian and Gabriel; and Zachary Friedman, of Belding, Michigan.
Jerry proudly served 35 years in the U.S. Navy, LDO, ordnance officer, retiring in 2005. He graduated with honors from St. Leo College obtaining a bachelor’s degree in business management. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Washington Red Skins and Capitals. He was a private pilot, served his church callings faithfully and volunteered helping children in many organizations. He enjoyed line dancing.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Road Chapel, Virginia Beach. Military funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2397 Newstead Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Private burial.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, SPCA or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary or Welfare Fund.
