Shirley H. Longacre, of Williamsburg and formerly of Northumberland, Pennsylvania, died Aug. 31, 2015, at the age of 90.
She was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert L. and Mildred Hassinger Herman.
On Jan. 9, 1946, she married John E. Longacre, who preceded her in death on June 21, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Larry Allamong.
She was a 1942 graduate of Northumberland High School. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northumberland. Mrs. Longacre was employed as secretary to the supervising principal of Northumberland High School from 1943 to 1951 and 1963 to 1965, secretary to the assistant superintendent of the Shikellamy School District from 1965 to 1969 and secretary to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Bucknell University from 1969 to 1988 when she retired.
She was active in Girl Scouts and was a member of the advisory board for the Northumberland Chapter of Rainbow Girls. She was a life member of Priestley Chapter #423 Order of the Eastern Star since 1943 and a charter member of Fort Augusta Court #127 Order of the Amaranth.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Allamong and granddaughter, Courtney Allamong, of Williamsburg. Also surviving are her brother, Robert C. Herman and his wife, Carolyn, of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland, Pennsylvania, with the funeral on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, also at the funeral home. The service was conducted by the Rev. Patricia Pittsnogle, her pastor. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.
