Ralph Willard McCarty, 86, retired mechanic who made cabinets and walking canes

Ralph Willard McCarty, of Yorktown, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at the age of 86.

Ralph was a native of Renick, West Virginia and a Yorktown resident since 1953. He retired from the city of Newport News in 1980 after 20 years as a mechanic. Ralph enjoyed wood working, making cabinets and walking canes.

He was preceded in death by his wife loving wife of 66 years, Gerlean M. McCarty and daughter, Karen Hamby.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl McCarty, of Yorktown; brothers, Roy McCarty, of South Carolina, Lee McCarty (Janice), of West Virginia, Howard McCarty (Ann), of Yorktown, James McCarty, of West Virginia and Junior and Mike McCarty, of Second Creek, West Virginia; son-in-law Ray Hamby; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Pugsley.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 2015, at Amory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
