Franklin “Frank” Thomas Stevenson, of Williamsburg and formerly of Houston, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at the age of 73.
Born in Chicago on Oct. 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Mildred and Dr. Murphy Stevenson. He was the beloved husband of the late Lynne Rosmond Stevenson; loving father of Rebecca (Bunion) Winstead, of Louisburg, North Carolina and Patty Stevenson, of Williamsburg; adored grandfather of Holly (Daniel) Kidd, Katlyn Gupton and Julianna Howington; and cherished great-grandfather of Jamerson Blake Kidd.
Frank graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota where he majored in speech and theater. He retired after 26 years of service as a civil engineer and manager of Family Readiness at Fort Eustis Army Transportation Base and the Headquarter of the U.S. Marine Corps, Quantico.
He was a member of the Williamsburg Players as well as a director and participant in many plays at Ft. Eustis, a member of NARF and an active member at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. He loved watching his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings, and enjoyed baseball, traveling and was an excellent cook. Most importantly he loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandson and his precious fur babies, Gunny, Jasmine and Achau. Frank’s favorite quote was “Remember keep your sunny side up and shiny side down.”
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg.
