Carolyn O. Tatum, a loving wife and mother of Williamsburg, died peacefully on Jan. 5, 2015, at the age of 74.
Her life began on Jan. 3, 1941, in Gloucester, daughter of the late Douglas N. and Dorothy L. Richardson. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Mac Arthur Richardson.
She worked at Williamsburg Community Hospital for 17 years and retired from Eastern State Hospital after 22 years of service as a registered nurse. She was a member of Chickahominy Baptist Church.
Carolyn’s pride in her family was evident in the way that she spoke about each of them. Carolyn instilled in her family the value of sharing, helping others to always do their best and most of all, to love one another. Ask her sisters and brother about each other and each will have a similar answer; they speak of loyalty, sharing confidences, being thankful for the blessings, enjoying their church, respecting each other as individuals and sharing the bonds of friendship and family love.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories her loving husband, Jimmy L. Tatum; two children, Charles E. White Jr. and Crystal D. Crewe (Don); four grandchildren, Arleigh Hatcher (Jerome), Dalton P. Crewe III, Timberly Travers (Dwayne) and Ashley White; two great-grandchildren, Cerae Hatcher and Dwayne Travers Jr.; six sisters, Edith Wynn, of Newport News, Jean E. Jones, of Toano, Joyce Easterling, of Williamsburg, Mary Sellers, of Toano, Dorothy Foster, of Henderson, North Carolina and Ella Dale, of Williamsburg; one brother, Lloyd Richardson, of Williamsburg; brother-in-law, Gerald Dale, of Williamsburg; one goddaughter, Angelique Richardson; one sister-in-law, Ida Richardson; an honorary son, Freddy Bartlett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and caring friends.
“Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
